\nResolve the following scenarios:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 5 ducklings hatched out in an incubator. YOU are their mother.
\nDucklings cannot be placed outside without a mother duck until
\ntemperatures never drop below 50 degrees. They are, therefore, under
\nyour dining room table.\u00a0 When can the NC Piedmont region expect
\ntemperature consistently above 50 degrees?\u00a0 Will the ducklings be placed
\noutside before YOU are forced to clean their nasty bedding 3 times a
\nday or begin living only in the upstairs part of your home to avoid the
\nstench?<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 One mother duck has hatched 12 ducklings and must be moved with
\nher brood out from under the deck stairs.\u00a0 During the move, one
\nduckling hides under the stairs in a 4 inch high space. What is the
\nlikelihood that there is a black widow spider living in that space?\u00a0 You
\nhave 3 seconds to answer before your 5 year old child reaches in to pull
\nthe duckling out.\u00a0 1…2…<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 One mother duck is sitting on a nest in front of the driveway.
\nThere are only 7 days until the ducklings hatch.\u00a0 She has fewer eggs each
\nday for 3 days.\u00a0 You find 1 egg crushed in the front yard.\u00a0 You find 1
\negg that looks like it has been pecked open.\u00a0 Knowing that eggs are
\neaten by hawks, snakes, raccoons and opossums, which is the most likely
\npredator?\u00a0 Explain the circle of life and prey\/predator relationship in
\nterms a 3 year old and 2 year old can understand when they are
\ndistressed about finding half-eaten eggs\/ducklings in the front yard.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Compare and contrast a nice warm home with a yard mowed by the
\nhomeowners’ association and a community pool versus a house on 4 acres
\ncrawling with ravenous wildlife, ticks, and weeds that grow\u00a0 2 inches a
\nday during the warm season.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 One duck has started looking for a nest in the backyard where 3
\nlarge dogs reside.\u00a0 How many days can she search the area before she is
\ndiscovered and attacked by the dogs?\u00a0 According to the Newton’s
\nProbability of Worst Case Scenario, is this likely to happen while the
\nkids are swinging peacefully in the back yard?\u00a0 Or will you find a
\nmutilated duck in the morning when you head out the door with the kids
\nto meet the school bus.\u00a0 Explain the circle of life and prey\/predator
\nrelationship in terms a 5 year old and 7 year old can understand because
\nthey are distressed about finding a half-eaten duck in the front yard.\u00a0 Do
\nNOT simply copy your answer from question 3.\u00a0 Older children ask tougher
\nquestions.\u00a0 Prepare an answer for “Why would God let this happen?”<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 One duck successfully hid and hatched 2 broods last summer.\u00a0 This
\nyear she has started laying eggs in a small depression in the ground in
\nplain view.\u00a0 Does this signify brain damage or a protest at the lack of<\/p>\n

proper housing?\u00a0 Can motherhood cause brain damage?\u00a0 Must use scientific examples– can NOT use what someone said on Dr. Phil this morning.\u00a0 If it is a protest did she get the idea from those annoying cows in “Click, Clack, MOO”?<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Construct\u00a0 housing for all of the ducks in questions l-5.\u00a0 You may
\nonly use materials laying around the property and in the shed.\u00a0 You may
\nnot saw, nail, or screw any of the pieces together.\u00a0 All housing must be
\nweather and predator proof with access to a natural area for foraging
\nand resting.\u00a0 Complete this in the time period of one Disney movie and
\none episode of Dragon Tales (which is entertaining your children while you work).\u00a0 Do not give up,\u00a0 IT CAN BE DONE!<\/p>\n

Bonus Question for Extra Credit:
\nWhile you are constructing the housing, your potty training 2 year poops in his underwear and your 4 year old gashes his head open on a Transformer
\nwhile jumping from couch to chair.\u00a0 The dog gets into the trash,
\nincluding spilling out the coffee grounds from this morning.\u00a0 It is only
\n10:38am.\u00a0 Will you make it until bedtime at 7:30pm without drugs or alcohol?<\/p>\n
