The best thing about being a farmer is having friends that are farmers, too.\u00a0 Because every farm is different.\u00a0 So just when it becomes unbearably boring to stroll through your barnyard or wander through your garden,\u00a0 you can head off to your friend’s place.<\/p>\n

Where the goat kids come with floppy ears and legs long enough to let them nibble your chin…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

finding nesting ducks is like a challenging game of I spy…..<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

…and the turkeys live year round, instead of just May to November.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There are tadpoles to catch in the pond.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

At least I hope they’re tadpoles.\u00a0 Because they seem big enough to grow into Plesiosaurs, which might wreak a bit of havoc with my plan to raise them in an aquarium on the deck.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The cherries are ripe, prolific, and, amazingly, have not yet been discovered by the starlings.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Which means in the time it takes to catch 8 tadpoles, I have enough fruit picked for cherry smoothies for breakfast in the morning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Best of all, my friend is a serious and professional farmer.\u00a0 Just like me.\u00a0 Just like me, he has a policy that all animals on the farm must have a purpose.\u00a0 After all, we can’t be wasting time, energy, and, most importantly, feed bags on animals that don’t contribute to the overall profitability of the farm.<\/p>\n

So I’m sure there’s a reason for the, um, peacocks……<\/p>\n

…and Buddy, the African Watusi.<\/p>\n

Maybe the same reason I used to have a blind lamb.\u00a0 And still have pony that refuses to pull a cart.\u00a0 Being serious and professional is kind of overrated.<\/p>\n
