The local planetarium held a special event to celebrate pollinators.\u00a0 It was educational.\u00a0 Outdoors.\u00a0 And free. The trifecta of summer fun.<\/p>\n

So we went and looked at pollinators.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

(Can you believe how nasty Japanese beetles are?\u00a0 As if they aren’t nasty enough they have to be doing the nasty in public.\u00a0 JB’s are just so…N.A.S.T.Y.)<\/p>\n

We made some of our own pollinators.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then we admired all the beautiful flowers that pollinators help to pollinate.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We were even given some flowers to take home and plant.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But best of all, as we strolled through the arboretum, we spotted a pair of barred owls low in the tree branches.<\/p>\n

Now normally when we see an owl, it is followed shortly thereafter by the sight of a headless duck or chicken on the ground.\u00a0 Owls are famous (infamous?) for taking just the head and neck of poultry and waterfowl in a kill.\u00a0 It’s gruesome.\u00a0 And almost as creepy as the way they appear to turn their heads all the way around.\u00a0 Plus, they stare.\u00a0 I mean, really STARE at you.\u00a0 Brrrrr.<\/p>\n

But not today.\u00a0 Today these owls were far far away from my hen house.\u00a0 And they appeared to be hunting squirrels.<\/p>\n
