{"id":2787,"date":"2011-08-24T12:05:56","date_gmt":"2011-08-24T19:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ruffledfeathersandspilledmilk.com\/?p=2787"},"modified":"2011-12-12T05:53:33","modified_gmt":"2011-12-12T12:53:33","slug":"city-people-have-all-the-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ruffledfeathersandspilledmilk.com\/?p=2787","title":{"rendered":"City People Have All The Fun."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, there was an earthquake.\u00a0 Not the scary kind of earthquake that sends people running screaming into the streets.\u00a0 Just the kind that makes people look up and say, &#8220;Is that an earthquake?&#8221;\u00a0 Or in most of my friends&#8217; houses, &#8220;Will you kids stop jumping around up there??!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was the kind of earthquake that hasn&#8217;t been felt around here since the 1890&#8217;s.\u00a0 Or so They say.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know how They know there was an earthquake here in the 1890&#8217;s.\u00a0 If you asked Them, They would probably say there are records or studies or data or something like that.\u00a0 Which is what They always say.\u00a0 And we always take Their word for it.\u00a0 Huh.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it would have been fun to tell my grandkids one day that I remember the earthquake.\u00a0 My grandkids wouldn&#8217;t have to take Their word for it.\u00a0 I could tell them exactly when it hit and what it felt like and what I was doing when it happened.<\/p>\n<p>Only I don&#8217;t know when it hit.\u00a0 Or what it felt like.\u00a0 Because I was fixing the roof on the barn when it happened.\u00a0 And I guess you have to be in a house surrounded by knick-knacks or working in office among cubicles and countertops to know when there&#8217;s an earthquake.\u00a0 Then there&#8217;s some rattling and shaking and stuff can fall over or off the walls or&#8230; well, I don&#8217;t know what.\u00a0 Because, like I said, I was on the barn roof.<\/p>\n<p>There were no picture frames to shake.\u00a0 Or post it notes to fall.\u00a0 Or lamps and tables to wobble.\u00a0 Just chickens and goats and ponies and ducks, all staring up at me and Big as we cleared off leaf debris and patched holes in the roof with tarp.\u00a0 Chickens and goats and ponies and ducks don&#8217;t wobble or fall.\u00a0 They just supervise.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth mentioning that Julia had been bellowing all day long in the barn yard.\u00a0 When we went inside for iced tea and heard there had been an earthquake, I got excited.\u00a0 Perhaps Julia was trying to warn us about the earthquake!\u00a0 A goat that can predict natural disasters would be worth telling your grandkids about.\u00a0 But when we went back out to add the branches we had cleared off the roof to the brush pile, she was busy trying to let Calico Jack into the ladies&#8217; pen.\u00a0 Which means she was just in heat.\u00a0 Nobody&#8217;s grandkids care about that.<\/p>\n<p>So only the city people got to experience a nice, safe earthquake where nobody got hurt.\u00a0 Now they will be able to tell their grandkids about it.\u00a0 Us country folk were probably all outside preparing for the hurricane that&#8217;s coming this weekend.\u00a0 You know roof checking, ditch clearing, tarp tying, generator testing, grain buying, blah, blah, blah.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right.\u00a0 Earthquake.\u00a0 Hurricane.\u00a0 Goats in heat.\u00a0 End of times, people.\u00a0 End of times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, there was an earthquake.\u00a0 Not the scary kind of earthquake that sends people running screaming into the streets.\u00a0 Just the kind that makes people look up and say, &#8220;Is that an earthquake?&#8221;\u00a0 Or in most of my friends&#8217;
