There’s no good excuse.\u00a0 I guess I just got carried away.\u00a0 Because the summer garden was finally planted (except for the root crops which prefer a 3rd quarter moon<\/em>).\u00a0 The raised beds in the side pasture were filled with compost in preparation for the vine crops (2nd quarter moon in Scorpio<\/em>).\u00a0 The chicken accessories were moved to the summer coop so everything would be ready for the Big Switch (any moon in which you can get as many hands as possible to help carry sleeping chickens from the winter coop to the summer coop<\/em>).\u00a0 I baked 3 loaves of bread, and actually remembered to put in flax seed\u00a0 (well, the bread machine did the baking but I did the remembering all by myself<\/em>).<\/p>\n

I even started up the incubator for the guinea eggs but did not<\/span> immediately put the eggs in it.\u00a0 This was hard.\u00a0 Very hard.\u00a0 The eggs were on the counter.\u00a0 The incubator was on the counter.\u00a0 The eggs wanted to go into the incubator.\u00a0 But temperatures in the incubator weren’t stable yet.\u00a0 Must wait 24 hours.\u00a0 Must wait.\u00a0 Must wait.\u00a0 Must find something else to do to keep from putting eggs in incubator.<\/p>\n

So that’s how it happened.<\/p>\n

Flush from my successful day, I strolled down the driveway.\u00a0 I admired the Other Half’s mowing and weedeating job.\u00a0 I smiled at a blue jay on the telephone pole.\u00a0 I saw a flash of pink in the perennial garden.<\/p>\n

“Oh,”\u00a0 I thought.\u00a0 “I should check on the perennial garden and see what’s coming up this year.”\u00a0 And I walked over.<\/p>\n

Why?\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 For Pete’s sake, WHY did I do that?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here’s what I saw:

The roses have spread into the pampas grass. That’ll be fun to untangle.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n

That pampas grass ended up shaded by the tree. Sweet. It’ll only take a FREAKING BACKHOE to dig up that clump and replant it.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n

Weeding prickly pear. That’s fun.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n

All of my success was snatched away.\u00a0 The immense task of weeding the perennials rose above the garden horizon like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in Ghostbusters.\u00a0 Oh, the horror.\u00a0 I couldn’t take it.\u00a0\u00a0 Surely, there was some other task, some chore less tedious, less thankless, less unrelenting that I could do.<\/p>\n
