Ruffled Feathers and Spilled Milk

Farming with ducks and dairy goats, chickens and children.

Just Rewards.

Got the barn chores done and the milk strained,

the eggs into cartons,

pork tenderloin into the crockpot,

and the bathrooms cleaned.

(Well, except for Pretty’s sink.  Which I couldn’t even find underneath all the tween supplies.)

All that done by 9:30am.

So I still had time to plant 24 feet of dahlia and lily bulbs….

and get the herb bed weeded and mulched.

Before running into town to return library books, pay the phone bill, get groceries, and rushing back home to mow the back yard for the first time this season.

Getting all the chores done before your parents arrive for dinner:

Exhausting.

Sending the rest of the night with them and the kids at the circus:

Exhilarating.

Sometimes you have to ditch the chores in order to spend time with the people you love.  Sometimes getting work done is its own (and only) reward.  And sometimes it all comes together, so that the work is done and the reward is fabulous.  Which is what I consider just rewards.  And what they mean when they say, “May all your days be circus days.”

I think.  Probably.  Maybe.
